Hello my friend! β
Where did 2024 go?!?
β
Hard to believe the holiday's are already here and the year is quickly coming to a close. As for me, all of my travel for the year is now complete and I'm looking forward to some dedicated photo editing time - which has been lacking recently.
β
Here's a new image from my workshop in the Dolomites I've been working on this week that I'm pretty happy with.
β
I hope you enjoy this edition of TheMorning Blaze and find it helpful.
β
Have the best weekend! -Mark D.

Advanced RAW Photo Editing Tricks You Don't Want to Miss!
There's a ton of photo editing tips and techniques available for enhancing our landscape photos, some that make a difference and some that make a HUGE difference. In this video, I'll review a few of those more advanced editing tricks that will completely transform your photography. I wont spend much time on the basic level adjustments in order to make way for ample time spent reviewing what I have found to be the difference between a good and great photo!
I just returned home from my Editing Retreat in Sedona and was greeted by this lovely box on my front porch. This is my first proper unboxing video on the channel and figured it would be cool to share my initial impressions of this brand new product. I don't want to spoil the reveal, but I can tell you that this new set will most certainly be in my camera bag at all times for the foreseeable future!
Beginner Telephoto Mistakes to Avoid in Landscape Photography
The popularity of telephoto lenses for landscape photography seems to be at an all-time high right now and for good reason! Having a telephoto as a companion to the standard wide angle lens for landscape photography makes perfect sense. And if you were to look up how to improve ones long lens landscape photography on the web you'd be presented with a colossal amount of information to digest, but one thing you seldom hear mentioned has to do with the telephoto mistakes you want to avoid in landscape photography.
Mastering Sharpness: Tips for Crisp Landscape Photos
Have you ever returned from an incredible adventure, bursting with excitement to see the stunning images you captured, only to find them disappointingly soft and out of focus? If so, you're not alone. In this article, we'll dive into the nitty-gritty of achieving razor-sharp landscape photos.
Focus Mode: The Foundation of Sharpness
First off, one of the fundamental aspects of achieving sharp images: focus modes. It's crucial to select the right focus mode for the job. While autofocus continuous may be ideal for fast-moving subjects like wildlife or sports, for landscape photography, autofocus single could be your best bet. Avoid the frustration of missed focus by ensuring your camera is set to the appropriate mode for static subjects - like mountains & trees.
The Impact of ISO on Image Quality
While itβs tempting to crank up the ISO in low-light situations, excessively high ISO levels can introduce unwanted noise and worst of all soften the details in your images. Keep your ISO in check, understand the limitations of your camera, especially when shooting landscapes where every detail matters.
Have you ever found yourself trapped in the allure of a wide-angle lens, hoping for those breathtaking, expansive landscape photos? I certainly have. It's a journey, a struggle even, that many of us have faced in our pursuit of capturing better landscape photographs. For years, I believed that grand vistas were the pinnacle of landscape photography. But, how wrong I actually was.
When I first started out, I'd trek to stunning locations, armed with my trusty wide-angle lens, ready to capture the world in all its glory. However, more often than not, I'd return with a series of lackluster imagesβrepetitive compositions with uninspiring skies. What was I missing?β
Truth be told, to pull off a great wide angle landscape photo, you need optimal conditions. Since your field of view is so large, things like a cloudless sky can create a major obstacle.
So when ideal conditions arenβt available, what do you do?
Photographing the Light:
It wasn't until I shifted my perspective that I began to see the lightβquite literally. Instead of solely focusing on the grand scene before me, I started to pay attention to the nuances of light. Those fleeting moments of contrast and illumination became my new muse.>> Read Moreβ
